Barry Trotz’s Flying Hot Lap
Washington Capitals Head Coach Barry Trotz take the famous Capitals Hot Lap before their Game 7 matchup with the Tampa Bay Lighting in in the Eastern Conference Finals.
In a typical Washington Capitals morning skate, the team will nominate someone to take the famous Hot Lap. Usually Alexander Ovechkin will take the nod, however, on this occasion before their biggest game of the season to date, the team nominated their Head Coach and fearless leader, Barry Trotz to take the Hot Lap.
Clocking in at just under 20 seconds, the 55 year old Barry Trotz gave it his all in the Hot Lap. He hustled through the corners and carried his speed very well around the ice. He was cheered on by the entire team on the bench as they slammed their sticks on the boards and encouraged their coach. He crossed the line in fashion on one knee, where he almost wiped out. However, he managed to avoid total embarrassment and stay balanced.
There’s no doubt that this Hot Lap seemed to have galvanized the team as they went on to dominate the Tampa Bay Lighting in Game 7 on their way to winning by a score of 4-0 and punching their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals.
