Paul George is Staying in OKC
Free agent Paul George says he is staying in OKC during Russell Westbrook’s party.
After much speculation and talk about where the star free agent was going to, Paul George has decided to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder. George announced his decision at a party at held by his superstar teammate Russell Westbrook.
After opting out of his of his previous contract, which would have put him at $20.7 million for the 2018-2019 season, George signed a four-year, $137 million max deal. The all-star forward confirmed the move at Westbrook’s party by saying “I’m here to stay.”
There was talk if George would play for his home state of California to possibly join free agent superstar LeBron James with the Lakers, but now James can only rely on free agent Kahwi Leonard to possibly join the Los Angeles Lakers.
With Westbrook and George already on max deals and Carmelo Anthony opting in to his $27 million option, OKC’s nucleus will stay in tact; Jerami Grant also agreed to a three-year, $27 million deal to continue his time with the Thunder. The Oklahoma City Thunder were 48-34 in the regular season, finishing with the fourth seed in the Western Conference. The Thunder were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs against the Utah Jazz, losing 4-2.
OKC is making a title run as they realize their window with their franchise player, 29-year-old Westbrook, is coming to a close in the next three to five years. This might be the three that finally bring one to the state of Oklahoma.
