You can’t end games on defensive penalties. A rule that will haunt the Missouri Tigers for a while.

On what would have been the final play of the game, Missouri’s DeMarkus Acy was called for defensive pass interference in the end zone to give Kentucky one more shot at winning the game. And they did. Terry Wilson found CJ Conrad in the end zone to pull off a win in a thrilling style.

Unranked Missouri was a seven-point favorite over No. 12 Kentucky going into the game. Missouri fans were not happy about the pass interference call, blaming the referees for giving away the win.

Kentucky opened up the game with a field goal. Missouri responded right away with a field goal attempt that was blocked by Kentucky’s Darius West. Even as the second drive of the game, this was a big difference maker in the end.

Missouri’s defense held strong all game. They held Kentucky to 3 of 14 third-down conversions and 0 of 3 on fourth-down conversions, but couldn’t hold them when it mattered. Benny Snell Jr. was held to his second lowest rushing yards all season at 67, his lowest being in their loss to Texas A&M at 60 yards. Kentucky’s defense was second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 12.9 points per game. They gave up 14 points in the first half, but shutout Missouri in the second half. Kentucky’s standout defender this game was outside linebacker Josh Allen who had two sacks and forced fumbles on both.

Mark Stoops pulled out starting quarterback Terry Wilson in the third quarter. Wilson came out in Kentucky’s first drive of the second half and only led the team down 39 yards and had three incomplete passes. Stoops put in backup Gunnar Hoak, hoping to jump start this offense once again. Hoak went 3 for 8 for 27 yards in three drives before Wilson entered the game again. Wilson successfully led the team down the field this next drive, but couldn’t finish and were stopped on a 4^th and 2 on the Missouri 2-yard line. In the final drive of the game, Wilson really showed out for the Wildcats. He led the team down the field once again, and threw the perfect pass to win the game.

Missouri’s Drew Lock didn’t have his best outing, completing 15 of 27 passes for 165 yards, his second lowest passing yards this season. Lock had a chance to put the game away in the final two minutes when the Tigers had a third and two from their own 26. His pass fell short though and paved the way for Kentucky’s winning drive.

Kentucky now faces Georgia this weekend in a game where the winner clinches the SEC East. Missouri heads down to Gainesville to face No. 13 Florida who is coming off a big loss to Georgia.
