Watch as Clemson offensive coordinator Jeff Scott reflects on his offense’s historic day in 77-16 win over Louisville. Clemson put up the most points against an FBS team since 1981.

Life is good for Clemson football these days. The program is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, behind only Alabama, and the Tigers recently put up 77 points against rival Louisville, on Saturday –  the most points scored versus an FBS team since 1981 (82 versus Wake Forest).

During Clemson’s record-setting day, they showed just how many weapons they have in their repertoire. Despite starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s subpar game of only 59 passing yards, Clemson’s offense still managed to put up over 70 points due to a strong rushing attack and good play from backup quarterback Chase Brice. In total, the Tigers racked up a season-high 492 rushing yards behind three 100-yard rushers in Travis Etienne (153 yards), Lyn-J Dixon (116) and Tavien Feaster (101).

“It’s really good to see 492 yards rushing,” said Clemson offensive coordinator Jeff Scott. “I think we averaged 13.3 yards per rush. It was a Clemson record. Having three backs over 100 yards was awesome to see.”

Brice might have only passed the football seven times, but he made his reps count. The backup freshman recorded 110 throwing yards and three touchdown passes on only 6-for-7 attempts. He accounted for three of the five touchdown passes for Clemson. Lawerence had the other two scoring tosses.

Clemson seems to be playing their best football at the perfect time, especially with the offense clicking the way it is. The Tigers had 10 different players score a touchdown in their dominating win over the Cardinals. Junior halfback Feaster led the charge with a team-high two scores. It was also a good sign for Clemson to see their rushing attack come out like that. Prior to the Louisville game, Clemson didn’t have a rusher pick up over 50 yards in their last two games.

“I think having 10 different guys score speaks about our depth. I really like where we are with our depth,” Scott said. “Getting our running game going was important to us.”

Next week, Clemson will look to ride their hot play against No. 17 Boston College on the road. Throughout the last four weeks, the Tigers set a new school record for points scored (240 points).
