Tyson Fury says Deontay Wilder is the fiercest puncher in boxing history.
Tyson Fury talks about what it was like to get in the ring against Deontay Wilder, and takes a shot at Anthony Joshua.
Tyson Fury (27-0-1, 19KOs) and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (40-0-1, 39KOs) fought to a draw at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It looks like a unification bout with Anthony Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs) will have to wait, but that didn’t stop Fury from taking a shot at Joshua.
“It’s no secret that Joshua did not want this fight,” said Fury. “And he didn’t want it for a reason, because Deontay Wilder is the most fiercest puncher in boxing history; in heavyweight division history. And I saw that tonight, and I felt it. No wonder AJ (Joshua) didn’t want no part of that (Wilder’s) right hand. He (Joshua) can’t move like me, he would’ve been nailed!”
Fury outboxed Wilder and slipped his hard-swinging punches for most of the fight. He did taste the canvas twice, however, and still got up when he appeared to be out cold in the twelfth and final round.
“I stood up for me country,” said Fury. “Me people, me pride, me family name and represented the United Kingdom Ireland tonight. And I’ve done it well, I’m proud. And I just wanna say that I am a true bred fighting man.”
Although Joshua had reportedly turned down an estimated $80 million to fight Wilder, Fury insists that Joshua wouldn’t have stood a chance in the ring.
“No way, No way!” said Fury. “He cant move! So he would’ve never got out of the way of Wilder. Wilder’s got lightning fists and has dynamite in his hands. Great fighter, I respect him a lot.”
