LL Cool J on Anthony Joshua: ‘You Got To Be Able to Handle Critics’ (Fanatics View Exclusive)
LL Cool J joined Fanatics View to speak on the upcoming rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz.
Anthony Joshua’s state of mind following his upset loss to Andy Ruiz in June have thrown off LL Cool J. The hip hop icon feels that Joshua has appeared to be in more denial of the loss as time has gone by.
Reflecting on the fight, “AJ” has gone on to say that Ruiz was handed a “punch from the gods.”
“That night you understood, you understood you lost,” LL Cool J told Fanatics View. “Now you talking about ‘he got a punch from the gods. It was lucky.’ Like, I don’t know how you get knocked down four times by luck.”
Fellow countryman Lennox Lewis felt that Joshua didn’t look like his usual self on that night. The Hall Of Famer also stated that he needs to be “fixed mentally” for the rematch with Ruiz. As a former champion, Lewis had his own share of losses against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman; but avenged both.
Although his take on the fight wasn’t received well by the former unified heavyweight champion. In an interview with Sky Sports, Joshua called Lewis a “clown” in response to his remarks.
However, the two-time Grammy award winner tells Fanatics View that Joshua should take Lewis’ words as advice; rather than criticism.
“When you’re at a championship level, you’re gonna have other champions that are gonna say things,” said LL Cool J. “And it may sound like criticism, but sometimes it’s just advice. It can be constructive criticism. So you know, we’ll see how it plays out.”
