Stephen Thompson Reacts to Colby Covington vs. Kamaru Usman 2, Gilbert Burns Loss & Paul vs. Woodley
Thompson on a potential fight with Usman: “I’m the only guy at the top right now that hasn’t fought him”
Fanatics View’s own James Lynch holds an exclusive interview with UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson as he gives his thoughts on the rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, his recent loss to Gilbert Burns, and the upcoming boxing match between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley.
“He’s improving everywhere,” says Thompson of Usman. “Not just his wrestling, but his striking as well. I got Kamaru Usman. Kamaru Usman is going to PUT IT ON Colby Covington. His striking is better than the last time they fought. He’s a very strong welterweight, and I think it’s going to go the same way it did last time, but in a shorter time.”
Thompson fell to 16-5-1 after his loss to Gilbert Burns. When asked if that soured his championship hopes, Thompson is confident that he’s still one of the top guys, if not, next in line.
“No. Not all. I’m still at the top right now. Still ranked number four and I’m still the only guy at the top of the division that hasn’t fought Kamaru Usman.”
As for the Paul-Woodley fight, Thompson believes that’s one of the few celebrity fights he will actually tune in for.
