Adrian Beltre and Max Stassi get into staring contest after Strike out in First Inning.

Adrian Beltre is no stranger to the spotlight. From moving the on-deck circle to pretending to catch pop-ups, Beltre has always been worth a watch.  Along with that, he has had about 20 years in the big leagues of making friends and jokes just about every night. Saturday was one of those special nights for Rangers fans.

Beltre is a top three third basemen of all-time and there is little argument against it. Every night it seems he is passing some legend on the all-time hits list or some other career statistic. Something that no other player in the history of baseball will ever pass Adrian Beltre is wacky situations on the diamond.

In the first inning of the second game of the series against the Astros, Justin Verlander is dealing. With one strikeout already in the inning, Verlander smelled blood. Justin Verlander’s best pitch with two strikes is his devastating curveball. Beltre bites on the ball in the dirt for strike three. However, the ball squirted toward first base giving Beltre the option to run to first. Adrian, being at his advanced age did not want to run and waste his energy. Instead, fakes the run and stares down the Astros catcher. They both lock eyes and refuse to break either way.

During all of this, the umpire has not signaled out to end the inning. Nonetheless, other players and coaches are seen packing up for the next half inning and running off of the field. Still, neither Beltre or Stassi gives in. Slowly they both back up to the dugout but still not out is called. Once Beltre’s iconic smile appears the umpire calls the out and the inning is officially over.

Adrian Beltre is a national treasure and us as fans have to cherish every moment we can with him on the field. The Rangers have had a disappointing season but Adrian Beltre makes it worth it to tune in every night. Let us hope that he never changes.
