Oregon State Clinches College World Series Championship
After being one strike away in Game 2 from losing the College World Series finals, Oregon State came back to force a Game 3 and eventually become College World Series Champions.
An offensive surge in the top of the 9th inning in Game 2 seemed to continue on in Game 3 for the Beavers. In Game 3, the Beavers scored five runs off seven hits. The College World Series’ most outstanding player was Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman. Rutschman went 3-4 and had 2 RBI in the final Game 3. Throughout the CWS, Rutschman went 17-30 with 13 RBIs. Another stellar performance from the Beavers in Game 3 was from pitcher Kevin Abel. Abel pitched the full 9 innings shutting out the Razorbacks, only giving up two hits the entire game and striking out 10. Abel was on fire the entire CWS as well. He pitched 21.0 innings with a 0.86 ERA. He was the first pitcher to earn four wins in the CWS and first pitcher to win two games in the CWS final series.
Oregon State earned their third College World Series title in school history, only the ninth program in history with three titles. The team headed back to Portland after Game 3 and were greeted by hundreds of fans for a victory rally around Pioneer Courthouse Square.
