The New York Yankees retired jersey No. 2 in honour of Derek Jeter Sunday night.

A native of Pequannock Township, NJ, Jeter is regarded as one of the all-time greats in Yankees history and spent his entire hall of fame career with the Bronx Bombers.

After being drafted sixth overall by New York in the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft, the eventual Yankee captain went on to play in 20 seasons and record 3,465 hits, 260 home runs, 1,311 RBI while averaging .310 over his career. Add in five World Series titles and you have yourself quite the resume.

The retiring of Jeter’s number puts him in an elite class with the likes of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe Dimaggio. A well deserved accomplishment, for one of the best to ever play the game. Congrats Derek!
