Mitch Haniger on Playing MLB The Show, Idolizing Dustin Pedroia & Love of Basketball Shoes
Fanatics View caught up with Mariners’ outfielder Mitch Haniger.
Haniger was wearing his Hyperdunks, and voiced his love for basketball shoes.
“I love basketball shoes, training and hitting in them”, Haniger told Fanatics View. “They’re great all around shoes, good support and light, very good for side-to-side movement. Any basketball shoes are gonna be great for that, and these have been great. These are probably the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn”.
In addition, Haniger was asked about MLB The Show, and being in the video game,
“It’s cool, definitely never thought I’d see myself in a video game – It’s surreal”, he said. “When I think of playing video games, I think of being Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr. It’s pretty cool and humbling to know a kid might be excited to play as me”, Haniger finished.
Haniger also discussed Dustin Pedroia, who was his idol growing up.
“He was a smaller guy, always had a chip on his shoulder”, he spoke. “Being a smaller player, you’re going to be overlooked in the draft and through high school. That guy just balled out wherever he went – great player, plays the game so hard. I try to model myself after him, just playing the game hard and focusing on winning”.
