The Oakland Athletics have got their Moneyball magic going once again with their 2nd walk-off win in a row.

Who are the Oakland Athletics? Every season, experts claim that the other team on the San Fransico Bay will be a joke. 2018 was no exception to that rule. With no significant moves and a last-place finish, the A’s were given low expectations.

However, over the past month and a half, the Swinging A’s have been baseballs best team. Yes, that includes the defending champion Astros and Boston Red Sox. We seem to be experiencing the book/movie Moneyball all over again. The Athletics have no notable superstars and awarded only one All-Star this season. The A’s are a team that will always fly under the radar no matter how good or bad the team is. In such a small market, it is almost impossible to gain the recognition of the neighboring teams in California.

This season, however, the A’s are looking to change their notion of under the radar team.  The team philosophy this season is hitting for power and late-inning pitching clutch. At the start of the season, things were going as expected. Fighting for last place with the Texas Rangers and being totally ignored by the baseball world. Over the last couple months, the hitting has turned around thanks to young sluggers like Khris Davis and Matt Olson.

Saturday and Sunday’s games are perfect examples of what the A’s have been able to do over the course of the summer. 18 of their last 23 wins have been comeback wins. Several of those coming in extra innings. The Oakland Athletics are finding ways to win and that should scare a lot of teams fighting for the wild-card spot.

The wins this weekend for the A’s were a bit sweeter than usual coming against their bitter rivals. The A’s with the win on Sunday took the fabled Bay-Bridge Series from the Giants. Along with the big wins, the A’s also broke the record for attendance at the Colusium for a single game. When the Oakland community is behind their A’s than you know something special is brewing.
