Hailey Dawson who suffers from Poland Syndrom meets her goal of throwing out the first pitch at every ballpark.

Hailey Dawson is living every young and old fan’s dream by throwing out the first pitch at Major League baseball games. Haily was diagnosed with Poland Syndrom when she was born. This birth defect causes underdevelopment of the pectoral muscle and causes problems with the arms and hand of the side affected. You may have noticed the robotic hand that she throws with. This is because her right hand is missing three fingers due to the disorder. Her robotic hand was designed by UNLV scientists for her use to throw these pitches.

Additionally, every robotic hand that she uses is customized based on what ballpark she is at. If you are doing the math, this 8-year-old girl has 30 fully customized robot hands. Yesterday, Haily became the first person ever to visit all 30 ballparks and throw out the first pitch in one season. She has now found herself in the Guinness Book of World Records for that feat. However, Hailey’s new record is safe until MLB adds more teams.

Major League Baseball is a league that you may not expect this kind of heartwarming gesture from. Over the years, baseball has lagged behind the other major sports. MLB’s focus on traditions and trying to recreate the “golden years” is cause for a lot of angst in baseball fans. Of course, MLB’s new commissioner Rob Manfred has taken steps back in the right direction. It appears baseball is back on the rise and catering more towards fans these days. Although attendance is down again in 2018, stories like Hailey’s are sure to help baseballs cause.

Hailey embodies everything you want in baseball. Overcoming adversity and taking potential failures and stresses and turning them into success. At just eight years old, Hailey has achieved more than a lot of us sports fans. We wish her the best!
