LaMelo Ball says “It’s a Dream Come True” to Play Brother Lonzo Ball in NBA After Bulls vs. Hornets
Reigning rookie of the year LaMelo Ball faced his brother Lonzo for the first time this season. LaMelo’s Hornets continued to struggle on defense and suffered the loss. LaMelo spoke about what they needed to fix and what it was like playing against his brother.
The Charlotte Hornets have surrendered 130+ points to their last two opponents. The Hornets are at their best when they lock in on defense. Their offense should come naturally from their array of professional scorers. It should be a simple formula, take care of defense = win.
Outside of defensive woes, LaMelo touched on what it was like to face off against his oldest brother, Lonzo. He described it as a: “Dream come true” and an “All around blessing.” He and his brother have dreamed of playing in the NBA since a very young age. To be able to share the court in front of their parents is definitely a sign of that dream coming to fruition. There was a sequence in the game where the Ball Brothers connected on back-to-back three-pointers. LaMelo’s competitive instincts kicked in after his brother hit a 3. He answered right back with a 3 in transition while Lonzo contested his shot.
Aside from the experience of playing his brother, LaMelo talked about his coach’s trust in him. Hornets’ coach James Borrego allowed LaMelo to stay in the game with 2 fouls. The young point guard is early in his NBA career. He and his brother will have many more matchups by the time their careers are over. Meanwhile, LaMelo will continue to improve his craft and grow as a player.
