The NBA had to wait a full year to see basketball prodigy Ben Simmons take the floor, and boy was it worth it. In his debut he racked up six points, seven rebounds and nine assists in a little under a half’s worth of play as the Sixers lost to the Grizzlies 110-89.

The aforementioned stats don’t necessarily jump off the page at first. However, if you take in to account his limited playing time, you soon begin to realize the Aussie baller could have very easily secured a triple double with more court time.

It may seem like I’m fooling around throwing out hypotheticals, but Ben Simmons playing more minutes than he did tonight is going to be a reality this upcoming season.

I’d also like to point out that his primary weapons shot 10-31 in their preseason opener, and that’s just not going to happen on a nightly basis. Had they shot even a tiny bit better, Simmons passing wizardry could very well have pushed him past the double digit assist mark.

Of course, Philly’s main man Joel Embiid hasn’t returned from yet another nagging injury and that will play a major role in determining Simmons’ per game output. Once the Cameroonian sensation heals up and rejoins the starting five, the point forward’s passing abilities should be on full display though his nightly numbers may take a hit.
