Expectations were low after the Donovan Mitchell was taken 13th overall by the Utah in the 2017 draft. The Jazz had just lost superstar Gordon Hayward to the Boston Celtics in free agency and playoff prospects looked grim when George Hill followed suit and joined the Sacramento Kings on a 3-year deal.

While the former Louisville Cardinal was sure to receive a sizable role with the departure of several key players from Utah’s rotation, not even Mitchell himself could’ve predicted the kind of rookie season he’d soon be enjoying. After a slow start to the season, Mitchell exploded onto the NBA scene with a bang and is now in the conversation for the highly coveted Rookie of the Year Award.

Although fellow rookie Ben Simmons has virtually locked up the end of the year honor by carrying the Philadelphia 76ers to the playoffs with their first 50 win season in over a decade, Mitchell added one more exclamation mark on his already magnificent rookie campaign.

Watch as Donovan Mitchell breaks out his handles to leave his defenders stumbling in his tracks.
