Nikola Jokic Remains Humble After Historic Comeback Series Victory for Denver
Nikola Jokic sees promise in Nuggets ahead of Western Conference finals.
Prior to a second comeback from a 3-1 deficit, Nikola Jokic knew this Nuggets team was something special. The 7-foot center even held back from giving his teammates a touching message before game 7 against the Clippers.
Jokic knew this wouldn’t be the end of the playoff road with the heart they’ve demonstrated on the court.
“It’s just a fun journey,” said Jokic. “3-1 Utah, 3-1 Clippers; we come back. I wanted to say something before the game. Like ‘whatever we do, I’m gonna remember this team.’ But I didn’t, because this is a really interesting team. We don’t have a first pick, we don’t have many superstars. Everybody’s working to get where they’re at. When we won the game, I just felt relieved. We did it.”
The two-time all star scored 16 points and picked up 22 rebounds in Denver’s 104-89 victory over Los Angeles. In his fifth year with the Nuggets, it’s this season that’s been quite an adventure for the second round pick of the 2014 NBA draft.
“To hold that team to 89 points, it’s amazing,” said Jokic. “The whole team effort was amazing, rebounding was amazing. When we start playing for each other, and everybody’s got everybody’s back; it’s really fun to be part of that group of people.”
