Rookies Grayson Allen and Trae Young Get Into a Scuffle
Two rookies, Utah Jazz guard Grayson Allen and Atlanta Hawk guard Trae Young get double techs.
During the final game of the Utah Jazz summer league, rookies Trae Young and Grayson Allen got into a brief altercation Thursday.
The scuffle happened after halftime on Atlanta’s possession; after coming off a pick, Young rolled to the top of the three point line as Allen followed the Atlanta’s first round draft pick. After Young pump faked a three, which Utah’s rookie did not fall for, Allen began to get up in Young. Their arms began to get intertwined as Allen reached for the steal.
As both rookies began to wrestle each other free, Young pushed down with his right arm on Allen’s back. Allen retaliated by thrusting his head and shoulder into Young’s torso. Referees and players intervened as they split the two players up.
Both of the rookies were assessed a technical fouls, and Allen was also given a personal foul. After the game was over, Young gave his thoughts on the altercation.
“That’s not the first time Grayson has gotten tangled up with someone, but it’s not the first time and last time I’m going to get tangled up with someone,” Young said. “It’s going to happen. This is the NBA. It’s going to be a physical game. Grayson is a physical player. I’m a physical player.”
Both first round draft picks were inefficient from the floor in the summer league game. Young was 3-16 on field goal attempts; Allen converted 2 of his 13 attempts.
