Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua have intense face off in New York
Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua demonstrated their determination ahead of rematch.
It was the second time Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua came face to face since they squared off in June. Although things have taken a significant turn, and look a lot different from the build-up to their first fight. Just about three months ago, it was Joshua who held up the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles; with two of them strapped around each arm.
“AJ” was all smiles, and even gave Ruiz two of his belts to hold up as they posed for photos. Joshua (22-1, 21KOs) had just come over to the U.S. from the U.K., and was receiving most; if not all of the media coverage. The Watford-bred fighter looked to capture the American public, and gain the same popularity he had back home in the U.K.
Ruiz (33-1, 22KOs) was a massive underdog, but had big visions as he looked to become the first heavyweight champion of Mexican descent in history.
Three months later, and “The Destroyer” is coming off the biggest victory of his career; and one of the biggest upsets in the sport. Ruiz is now the one holding up the four title belts. He has a sombrero on, with the colors green, white, and red on it’s rim to demonstrate the pride in his heritage.
Ruiz has gained more attention, and a lot more cameras are pointed at him this time around. After all, he is the new unified heavyweight champion; and had just made history. With the rematch set for Dec. 7 in Saudi Arabia, the defending champion intends to prove that their first fight was no fluke.
After he was knocked down four times by Ruiz, Joshua looks to leave the shocking TKO loss behind him; and recapture the titles. Facing off for the second time since their showdown, Ruiz and Joshua built the intensity with a 30-second stare down.
