Shawn Porter says Anthony Joshua is “Not Explosive” Like Deontay Wilder & Tyson Fury
Shawn Porter doesn’t think Anthony Joshua stands in the best position.
Shawn Porter feels that Anthony Joshua may currently find himself in a bit of a no man’s land. Instead, all the anticipation at heavyweight may be leaning towards the upcoming title fight rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
“I think it sucks where Anthony Joshua is sitting at right now,” said Porter. “He’s outside the box. He’s watching these guys do great things, and look great. And all he can do is sit there and wonder if he’s gonna get a fight. If this fight is as great as we think it’s gonna be, we deserve a trilogy.”
With that fight set for February 22nd, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum also revealed that a deal was in place for a potential third fight. Although Joshua (23-1, 21KOs) is a unified champion, “Showtime” doesn’t see him “measuring up” to neither Wilder (42-0-1, 41KOs) or Fury (29-0-1, 20KOs).
“He can’t talk the way that these guys can talk,” said Porter. “He’s not flashy the way that these guys are flashy. He’s not explosive the way that either of these guys are explosive.”
“AJ” avenged a shocking loss against Andy Ruiz last December to reclaim his titles. Prior to the loss, a potential showdown between Joshua and “The Bronze Bomber” carried a great deal of magnitude. Even after a bounce back victory, Porter thinks there’s still more that the unified champion needs to prove.
“I don’t think he won the fight in a way that was convincing,” said Porter. “Or entertaining, or satisfying to those watching. And I think that he still has some way to go. I don’t know who it is that he has to fight to really prove that he belongs in the ring with Deontay Wilder, or Tyson Fury. I just think that we need to see him again. And we need to see a big, strong, Anthony Joshua; that we’ve seen in the past.”
