Eddie Hearn wants to make Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia in 2020 (FV Exclusive)
Eddie Hearn speaks with Fanatics View on Devin Haney’s future.
Devin Haney has proven to be one of the most sensational young prospects at lightweight. At 21 years old, the WBC lightweight champion feels ready to step up the competition and challenge himself among the big names. Promoter Eddie Hearn tells Fanatics View about his young star’s hunger and ambition.
“The great thing with Devin is he wants all that smoke now,” Hearn told Fanatics View. “So he’s like ‘when can I fight (Vasyl) Lomachenko? What if I move up and fight Mikey Garcia?’ I’m like ‘mate you’re 21, calm down; chill.”
Although those are not opponents Haney (25-0,15KOs) may get in the ring with anytime soon, Hearn aims to pair him up with another young rising star in Ryan Garcia, 21, (19-0,16KOs) sometime this year. The ESPN 2017 prospect of the year has been causing a raucous in the stacked 135-pound division himself. Most recently with a cold first-round knockout over Francisco Fonseca.
“I think that’s a big fight,” said Hearn. “You’ve kinda got that core tear of Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and “Tank” (Gervonta Davis) of the young guns. “Loma” is the king, but those four should already be fighting each other. These are great fights that we wanna see. And those guys are the future.”
