Gennady Golovkin on a potential Canelo Alavrez trilogy: ‘99% chance.’
Gennady Golovkin seeks a Canelo Alvarez trilogy without a doubt.
Although Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34KOs) still has to get past Steve Rolls (19-0, 10KOs) Saturday, he can’t avoid being asked about Canelo Alvarez. The former unified middleweight champion can’t deny that he’s anxious for a third bout against Alvarez, following two controversial decisions.
“Come on guys my focus is just on Steve Rolls,” said Golovkin. “Ok if I beat him, 99%; in September.”
Golovkin first met Alvarez in September 2017, with the bout ending in a draw. The rematch took place a year later in September 2018, with Alvarez earning the victory; along with Golovkin’s titles by majority decision.
The Kazakhstan native hopes to set himself up for a trilogy against Alvarez with a strong showing against Rolls at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
