Keith Thurman recalls the most vulnerable moment of his career against Josesito Lopez.

Keith Thurman found himself in unfamiliar territory when he took on a tough and pressuring Josesito Lopez in January. In the tenth round, Lopez tagged Thurman with one hard blow after another.

It appeared it was only a matter of time before “One Time” hit the canvas.

“I got hit with three big shots that round,” Thurman said on a media conference call. “And I said, ‘damn it you better put your hands up. You better move your feet, cause only you know you’re ok right now. The whole world thinks you bout to be knocked the f— out boy.”

Thurman was in survival mode and moved around the ring on wobbly legs as he tried to avoid an onslaught by Lopez. Sensing the finish, Lopez stayed on Thurman and pressed forward relentlessly.

But the defending champion made it out of the round and went on to earn the majority decision victory.

“A lot of fighters would not be able to get out of the round in the way that I did,” said Thurman. “And to me, it’s just evidence of how great I truly am.”
