Kenny Porter wants Errol Spence after Yordenis Ugas fight
Kenny Porter made it clear who he wants his son Shawn Porter to face next.
WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter (30-2-1,17KOs) has his first title defense against Yordenis Ugas (23-4,11KOs). Shawn’s father and trainer, Kenny Porter, eyes a certain outcome in the bout; as well as Shawn’s next opponent.
“This guy’s (Ugas) very well skilled,” said Porter. “He’s been doing this all of his life. So it’s not gonna be easy, but I want Shawn to punish him. My prediction is punishment.”
Shawn won the vacant WBC welterweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Danny Garcia in September 2018. Porter tells Fanatics View that he doesn’t necessarily seek unification bouts for Shawn, but “just names.” It appears that there is only one name in particular that he’s eyeing next, shall Shawn successfully defend his title against Ugas.
“Errol Spence, Errol Spence, and uh… Errol Spence.” said Porter.
Spence holds the IBF welterweight title, and will make his third title defense against Mikey Garcia on Mar. 16. Shawn previously held the IBF title after a unanimous decision victory over then champion Devon Alexander in December 2013.
He made one successful defense against Paulie Malignaggi, before losing the belt to Kell Brook by majority decision in August 2014. After three successful title defenses, Brook would go on to lose the belt himself by 11th-round knockout to Spence in May 2017. Porter is also ready to go to Spence’s hometown of Dallas for a potential bout, shall Spence have a successful title defense against Garcia.
“I hope he’s (Spence) successful,” said Porter.”And if Shawn is successful, when Shawn is successful, speak that into existence; they’ll be booking our ticket to Dallas. We’re coming to Dallas.”
