Kyler Murray has a big challenge ahead of him this season taking over for Baker Mayfield on the Oklahoma offense.

Mayfield has become college football legend. He led Oklahoma to three Big 12 championships, two college football playoff semifinals and won the Heisman Trophy in 2018. The next guy to play for Oklahoma has some big shoes to fill. Kyler Murray has excepted that challenge.

Murray is a duel threat quarterback, he can throw and run the ball really well. Not only has he become a threat on the football field, he is also a threat on the baseball field. Murray is a two sport athlete and was drafted by the Oakland A’s this year. Murray decided he didn’t want to give up on football yet and stayed to play for the Sooners this season. His teammates and coaches are very happy about that decision.

Murray started off at Texas A&M and transferred to OU two years ago. He had the opportunity to sit out and learn from Mayfield last season. Murray said, “Seeing the blueprint of Coach Riley and seeing Baker have success was definitely good for me.” Coach Lincoln Riley has been very impressed with Murray thus far. He was glad Murray got the chance to learn from Mayfield, but also wants him to form his own path. Coach Riley said, “He is taking what he can from Baker and learning, but also has to be himself.” Coach Riley also said how the two quarterbacks are similar but how Murray is a “more explosive athlete.” Murray has already lead the Sooners to 2-0 this season and is looking to continue improving his game.
