Johnny Manziel Signs with Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny Manziel signs with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

The 25-year old Quarterback out of Texas A&M University, by way of Tyler, Texas, signed a two-year deal to play football north of the boarder under Head Coach June Jones. Jones is known in the community as somewhat of a QB whisperer and will be liking his chops in preparation with someone as talented as Johhny Manziel.

Manziel was drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, who thought they had finally found the franchise QB they’d been looking for since Clinton was in the White House. However, thanks to their mis-management of all QBs not only that year but in years past, things flamed out between Manziel and the Browns. Johnny Manziels stint in the NFL between 2014-2015 was with the Cleveland Browns where he battled problems on the field and off the field, which led him to stepping away from football for nearly three years.

In his time away, Manziel managed to clean up his act, shake off the distractions and addiction issues that held him back and focus more on refining his skills and getting his body into tip-top shape. The process of signing Manziel was a long one as there were many steps involved and procedures to adhere too. However, as Manziel mentions in his press conference, he was thrilled that an agreement was met because he did not want to wait around anymore. Manziel is eager to get back onto the field and compete at a high level.

Manziel is thankful for the opportunity and very aware that he has a lot of work to do in order to earn his stripes with the team and compete for the starting role. This will no doubt bring a lot more attention to the game in Canada and can provide Manziel a platform to succeed as the CFL is a very pass-heavy league that demands a lot from it’s QBs.

With the CFL season just around the corner, football fans everywhere will be keeping tabs on the game north of the boarder to see how Johnny Football fairs. Hopefully he can keep his act together on and off the field in order to set himself up for success this upcoming season and for seasons to come.
