Antonio Brown scores game-winning touchdown against the Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals lost their opportunity to jump to a 3-game lead in the AFC North over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Antonio Brown added another highlight reel to his resume as he saved the Steelers’ season. Brown raced to the end zone for a game-winning 31-yard touchdown score to break the hearts of the Bengals.
Down 21-20 with only 15 seconds left against Bengals, Pittsburgh’s season was not looking bright. The Steelers were on the brink of falling three games behind the Bengals in the AFC North, only five games into the season, and they would still be winless in a tough division. But Antonio Brown had other ideas in mind. A simple 2-yard slant from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was all Brown needed to break loose for the 31-yard game-winning score for Pittsburgh. Brown did much more than just save the day for the Steelers. He saved the season for the Steelers with another clutch moment in the closing seconds.
Before Brown’s touchdown grab, he was having a quiet game for his standards. Brown only had four receptions for 74 yards with no touchdowns. However, when the going gets tough, Roethlisberger’s go-to player will always be Brown. So, when the Steelers got the ball back after the Bengals took the lead late in the fourth, everyone in Paul Brown Stadium knew who to stop. Unfortunately for the Bengals, it’s easier said than done to contain Brown for an entire game before he leaves his mark.
However, with a play that big and that late in a game, Brown’s touchdown came with some controversy. Many people believe Pittsburgh’s Justin Hunter set an illegal pick on Bengals’ Tony McRae to get Brown that wide open. But after further, NFL senior vice president of officiating Al Riveron confirmed it was a legal play.
Maybe it was Cincinnati’s decision to all-out blitz and leave no safety that lost them the game.
With the win, the Steelers improved their record to 3-2-1, while Cincinnati fell to 4-2. The next time these two teams will meet is December 30 for the last game of the regular season. If both teams continue to go down this road, the last game may be a defining game in the AFC North.
