President Trump says NFL refs are ruining football
During a Friday night political rally in Alabama, President Trump denounced NFL referees for, “ruining the game.”
The comment came as Trump urged NFL owners to fire players who kneel in protest during the National Anthem before every game.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, Get that son of a b—- off the field right now, he is fired.”
Though the Commander-in-chief called for reforms across professional football this weekend, The NFL Players Association stood its ground in response to the inflammatory remarks.
“This union, however, will never back down when it comes to protecting the constitutional rights of our players as citizens as well as their safety as men who compete in a game that exposes them to great risks,” NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said.
While Trump seems to be encouraging the NFL to bring back big hits, the league and its union continues to try and move towards a safer game for the players.
