Urban Meyer talks Trevor Lawrence Early Struggles, Broncos Loss, Jags Kicker Josh Lambo Concerns
Meyer on team struggles: “We will break this rock. When we do, I want them to enjoy it”
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer is off to an 0-2 start in his NFL tenure. Rookie QB Trevor Lawrence is also off to a rocky start, and Meyer addressed the media about some of Lawrence’s struggles to begin the season.
“He threw one in there to Laviska (Shenault Jr.) that was a heck of a ball but he shoulda just checked it down,” said Meyer referring to Lawrence’s decision making. “Sometimes, he checks it down when the guys are covered. It’s just working through it. Young quarterback stuff. He’ll improve.”
Lawrence so far in the first two games of his NFL career is 42-84 for 450 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions.
After dropping their home opener to the Denver Broncos 23-13, Meyer is confident in the team’s ability to turn it around.
“One great positive is the energy I saw on the sidelines. The challenge I have for our team is to have as good a locker room as there is in the NFL. That means guys that care about each other. Guys that fight for each other. Guys that pull for each other. A lot of guys were here last year. You start losing those games and this year start losing games, I just want them to stick together.”
“We’re gonna break this rock,” finished Meyer.
