Defenseman P.K. Subban of the Nashville Predators was named NHL 19 Cover Athlete at the 2018 NHL Awards Ceremony.

On Wednesday, June 20th, 2018, the annual NHL awards were hosted at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. and one of the more anticipated announcements of the evening was NHL Superstar P.K. Subban will be featured on the 2019 version of the fan-favourite video game, NHL 19.

The announcement was made by two of the most popular guys in the hockey social media world, Olly and Jacob of On The Bench. Both Olly and Jacob are know for producing some of the hockey worlds most hilarious and ridiculous content on social media. From skating on pavement at an outdoor rink in the summer to being run through the paces by NHL superstars on the ice during the off-season. The two jokesters have truly carved out their own niche. Needless to say, their announcement of this honour was done in a very funny way as well.

Subban joins the likes of the Steven Stamkos, Connor McDavid, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jonathan Toews, Wayne Gretzky, Martin Brodeur, Patrick Kane, Alex Ovechkin, etc. who have all graced the cover of the world famous video game.

The NHL Cover Athlete honour isn’t met with the same playing career demise that is met with the Madden NFL games as usually that is referred to as ‘The Madden Curse’. However, we’ll wait and see what kind of season P.K. Subban has starting this fall. He and the Nashville Predators were bounced from the playoffs rather prematurely in this past playoff campaign. In the 2016/17 season the Predators were able to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals only to lose to the powerhouse Pittsburgh Penguins. Hopefully Subban doesn’t let the increasing fame get to his head and he can still perform on this ice for his team who will need him next season if they want to make another Cup run.
