Juan Migeul Echevarria jumped 8.83 meters to win Stockholm Diamond League.
19-year-old Juan Migeul Echevarria stole the show at the Stockholm Diamond League long jump event when he jumped a record 8.83 meters, which is 29 feet and 11.5 inches. The jump was so far that the 19 year old almost jumped out of the sand pit.
The Cuban’s jump would have been the fifth longest jump in history. There is one caveat to add to Echevarria’s jump: there was 2.1meters/second of wind in his favor.
This was the furthest jump since 1995 when Ivan Pedroso jumped in the Italian Alps. The world record is still held by Mike Powell at 8.95 meters.
