Toronto Maples Leafs fire Randy Carlyle!
Dave Nonis speaks with the media about the decision to relieve Randy Carlyle of his duties.
91-78-19 in 188 games over parts of 4 seasons as the “Buds” bench boss – simply not good enough in a market that has seen it’s team out of the post season 8 of the last 9 campaigns.
However it is not Randy Carlyle’s fault for all those seasons of course. Leaf fans watched their team spiral out of control at the end of last season losing 12 of 14. Randy had to know his time was coming. An obvious chip to fall as the stoic Brendan Shanahan has watched on from the press box with young golden boy, Kyle Dubas, who Leaf fans can only hope is hockey’s version of Billy Beane.
The assistants Pete Horachek and Steve Spott take over for now, with no timetable to hire a new coach accoring to lame duck GM Dave Nonis. Yes, it is quite the Leafs thing to do, have more cooks in the kitchen.
