Jay Bruce speaks on the Cleveland Indians historic run
“It feels like October.” stated Jay Bruce.
After being etched into Major League Baseball history on an overcast Wednesday afternoon, Bruce eyed left-field where he knocked a three run homer in the 1st and continued “I’m happy to be here, man. I’m happy to help.”
The Indians are rewriting history. Cleveland became the first American League team to break the Oakland A’s 20-game win streak after their 5 – 3 victory over Detroit. Before Wednesday, the A’s held the record since 2002. The Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays came close to breaking Oakland’s streak in 2004. Both teams won 12 consecutive games but were met by losses.
When questioned how to handle the concerns of fans anxious to carry on the streak, Bruce responded, “I think the guys we have here are conditioned to leave yesterday behind, not worry about tomorrow and be focused on where we are right now.”
Cleveland will face the Kansas City Royals Thursday night at 6:10 PM CT. Kansas City owns a 72 – 73 record and doesn’t pose a huge threat to the Indians.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Bruce responded to a question of whether his trade from the Mets to Cleveland could have worked out any better. “I couldn’t ask for anymore, man. I feel at home here. This is where I should be.”
