Ben Simmons notches first career triple double
Open and close, that is the only way to describe the Sixers Pistons game on Monday night. From the opening tip, Philadelphia took the lead and never gave it back.
In an otherwise bland matchup, Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons provided an entertaining show. Collecting 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, the the point forward secured his first career triple double, a feat that took LeBron James nearly two seasons to achieve.
With some assistance from big man Joel Embiid, the Aussie pushed the Sixers to their first win of the season. In the 97-86 victory, the duo combined for 50 points and 20 rebounds.
On a more somber note, Philly’s first overall pick Markelle Fultz continued to battle inefficiency as a result of his nagging shoulder injury. Reportedly the rookie is now struggling to even raise his arm above his head.
While the seriousness of the shoulder injury has yet to be disclosed by team officials, the plan going forward appears to be letting the teenage guard play through the pain. That may not be the best solution, but until we know the facts surrounding the injury it’s hard to make a solid judgment.
