Donovan Mitchell destroys the rim as Jazz win eighth straight
If you’re not excited for the 2018 Verizon Slam Dunk Contest, you haven’t been watching near enough NBA basketball. This season’s crop of contestants includes first-time All-Star Victor Oladipo, a new-look Larry Nance Jr., and rookies Dennis Smith Jr. and Donovan Mitchell.
While all these dunkers are special in their own right, no one in this year’s competition throws down a dunk quite as ferociously as Donovan Mitchell. The league is lucky their rims are humanly impossible to take down, otherwise Mitchell would have ripped them from backboard by now.
On Friday, Mitchell gave fans a preview of what he’ll bring to the table come All-Star Weekend when he absolutely punished the Charlotte Hornets in transition with a rim-rocking slam. While Mitchell is already one of the most exciting dunkers the NBA has to offer, he’s quickly establishing himself as one of the brightest young stars.
Mitchell finished with a game-high 25 points and the Utah Jazz went on to win their eighth straight game with a score of 106-94. Utah’s eight game winning streak is the longest active streak in the NBA and they will look to breakeven on the season as they take on the Portland Trailblazers on Sunday night.
