The Nets showed determination to make a run at the playoffs with a dominant win over the Pistons.

The Nets and Pistons came into the game with winning streaks of their own, but it was also the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference standings at stake for both teams. In the end it was the Nets who kept their winning streak and playoff run alive with a 103-75 victory over the Pistons on Monday night at the Barclays Center.

Brooklyn had won their last three games, while Detroit was seeking to win their sixth straight. The Pistons also held a half-game lead over the Nets for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference. The Nets fell 4-0 to the Pistons early in the first quarter, but from there Brooklyn emerged with a 18-5 run and never looked back.

Two three-pointers by Allen Crabbe helped the Nets end the first quarter with a comfortable lead over the Pistons at 27-19. In the second quarter, Brooklyn continued to control the game as they outscored Detroit by 34-19. Nets rookie Radions Kurucs came through with two steals and nine of his 13 points coming in the second. By half-time Brooklyn led Detroit 65-31.

Detroit looked to bounce back in the third quarter after falling short of scoring 20 points in both quarters of the first-half. They cut Brooklyn’s lead down to 20 points as they trailed 52-72 with about four minutes left in the third. But the Nets pulled away with a 62-88 lead to end the quarter.

Both the Nets and Pistons had their lowest scoring quarter in the fourth, with Brooklyn scoring 15 points to Detroit’s 13. The Nets improved to 36-33 with the victory and now hold a half-game lead over the Pistons for the No. 6 seed.

Crabbe carried Brooklyn with 14 points, 10, rebounds, and four assists. Kurucs followed up with 13 points, three steals, and three turnovers. Joe Harris scored 12 points, with four rebounds, and three assists. D’Angelo Russell and Jarrett Allen both finished the game with 11 points each.

Only Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond scored at least 10 points for the Pistons, with Griffin scoring 10; and Drummond scoring 13. Griffin was also held down to 1-10 from the field, and 1-5 in three-point attempts.

The Nets now look to extend their winning streak and playoff run when they meet the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Wednesday.
