Teofimo Lopez hopes to land the big fights at lightweight and become a champion.

Teofimo Lopez once again continued to impress by securing his fifth straight knockout victory against Edis Tatli. Lopez (13-0, 11KOs) landed a hard straight right to Tatli’s (31-3, 10KOs) body, causing him to drop on his knees; and unable to continue in the fifth round.

The 2018 prospect of the year plans to step back into the ring during the summer in July. His opponent has yet to be named, but Lopez made it clear that he wants Vasyl Lomachenko (13-1, 10KOs), or Richard Commey (28-2, 25KOs). The 21-year-old Lopez may have to wait for his title shot, but that hasn’t stopped him from calling out the best.

“I’ve tried, I really tried; I’ve tried to go out of my way,” said Lopez. “And honestly, I think I did a little too much trying to go out my way. Because, no matter what we try to do, the things that you guys don’t understand is these guys don’t wanna fight us. They’d rather fight someone else.”

Lopez predicted that he would stop Tatli within six rounds on a body shot, and fulfilled his word. He also had interest in a bout with former unified lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (39-1, 30KOs), though Garcia isn’t certain about coming back to the division after moving up in weight. As long as Lopez continues to put on impressive performances, he’ll stay on track to earning his title shot.

“The whole thing is I wanna collect something at 135,” said Lopez. “I gotta collect something. I’ve been at this weight for five, six years. I need to collect something man, I always do. Even in the amateurs, I did. I gotta go big, or go home. So I’m trying to go big.”
