Eddie Hearn ‘100% sure’ Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury will get made
Eddie Hearn believes Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury clash can happen in 2020.
Eddie Hearn visions a big showdown at heavyweight by the end of 2020, Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury. After Fury (30-0-1,21KOs) dethroned Deontay Wilder (42-1-1,41KOs) for the WBC title in a dominant TKO victory, the anticipation for a unification bout between the Brits has already began to stir.
“I think that’s inevitable,” said Hearn, who promotes the unified champion Joshua. “Three months ago (Al Haymon’s) PBC, America, had all the heavyweight belts. And now Great Britain has all the heavyweight belts, in Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.”
With Wilder exercising his rematch clause recently, he will likely meet Fury, of Manchester, again in a trilogy match in July. Though an official announcement on the exact date and venue has not been made. The Watford-bred Joshua (23-1,21KOs) meanwhile will have to take care of business against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev (28-1,14KOs) in June.
A victory for two of Great Britain’s biggest stars can set up the clash for later this year. Although Fury fights under ESPN, and Joshua on DAZN, Hearn says the difference in networks won’t prevent a deal from getting done.
“These guys are gonna have to sit down with themselves to work that out,” said Hearn. “It’s our job to make the fight. I promise you Anthony Joshua is desperate for this fight. I know Tyson Fury will accept this fight and this challenge. So I’m 100% sure this fight will get made. It’s just a case of whether that’s gonna be this summer, but more likely December 2020.”
