Rangers GM Jon Daniels sat down to answer questions on the state of the Texas Rangers

Daniels addressed the Fernando Tatis Jr. grandslam that attracted unwanted media attention following Woodward’s comments.

“I actually thought what he said afterwards should have been celebrated”, Daniels told the media. “Woody grew up in a bit of an older school organization in Toronto. He grew up with the unwritten rules and quite frankly I’m not sure if everyone understands them the same way. What he said was he didn’t agree with something that happened on the field, but was open to a conversation of change. Woody is as thoughtful and as mindful and genuine of a person as you’re gonna find in the game. I was proud to work with him, I always am, but certainly at that moment I thought he handled it really well. Quite frankly, I didn’t like the appearance on the field. We all know, people will throw stones from glass houses and there was a lot of that happening on social media. I thought what he said was a big positive and not the negative that it was portrayed to be”, Daniels finished.

Daniels was also asked regarding any potential moves before the trade deadline to possibly secure a playoff birth.

“It kinda depends on the specific deals”, he responded. “As you’ve seen with the market the last couple years when you’re talking about a rental player, the market is relatively small. It would have to make sense for us. We wouldn’t just look to move guys for inventory, but if there were other reasons to do so, we would consider it.”
