Buccaneers’ Shaquil Barrett Returns to Denver in Style with Two Sacks & Much More to be Excited About
In winning fashion, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played well-orchestrated defense with linebacker Shaquil Barrett leading the way with a 2 sack performance (including 1 safety).
With the offense performing well on the opposite side of the ball, Tampa took advantage of an ailing Denver Broncos offense that was missing starting QB Drew Lock who is out for the next 2 – 3 weeks with a shoulder injury. The impact of middle protector Shaquill Barrett was a spark that ignited many other young players to install a presence and follow suit.
After a collegiate career with Colorado State University, and being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Broncos in 2014, the questions rolled in focusing on how Barrett felt towards the “homecoming” feeling of playing in Denver. The first question focused on both; his emotions of returning to Colorado, and his 2 sack performance.
“So, was just waking up this morning it was normal morning. But it wasn’t until I got to the stadium was when I started feeling all the emotions, and excitement… enthusiasm. But, sacks was pretty much, the first one – he just was off a bootleg and I read it pretty good. The quarterback, I guess – I think Devin (White) cut off his first read so it made him hold the ball… was able to get to him. And on the second one, we had a nice little stunt – just wrapped around – and I think Devin might have missed the quarterback going to that one, too, and set it up for me. So it was just everybody working off each other, feeding off each other.”
