Javy Baez Reacts to Getting Benched by David Ross: “I Was Just Surprised”
Watch as Cubs star Javier Baez reacts to being benched after being caught SLEEPING on the bases.
In a 4-0 loss to the Indians, Chicago’s David Ross made a surprising decision to bench star short-stop Javier Baez. This came in the 4th when Baez was caught sleeping on the bases following a one-out pop-up from Anthony Rizzo.
“I was just surprised”, Baez said after Ross’s decision. “Obviously, I never want to be out of the lineup. I just respect his decision, he told me why, what happened, and I just say ‘okay, it’s your decision.'”
According to Baez, the miscue came after thinking there were 2 outs in the inning.
“I honestly lost the outs. I had the whole time that it was like 2 outs, and that’s obviously what just happened, there was only one out. Tony [Rizzo] flew out to left field, and I ran like it was 2 outs…”
Additionally, Baez showed respect to manager David Ross’s call to take him out of the 1-0 game.
“I just respect his decision”, Baez told the media. “I couldn’t go against him you know, I blamed it on myself, I lost the count of the outs. We talked about it, we are on the same page, and I’ll be there tomorrow to help the team”, he finished.
