Aaron Boone Previews Yankees vs. Red Sox AL Wild Card Matchup & Talks Gio Urshela Epic Catch
Boone on Gerrit Cole after recent struggles: “I think everything is there for him to put it together tomorrow”
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke on their AL Wild Card matchup against the Boston Red Sox and addressed some of the lineup changes leading up to the game.
“There’s a buzz here. It matters here,” says Boone of the vibe going into the game. “It’s fun to compete in games here. It’s tough to compete in games here. I think there will be some tension and electricity. Everything you can hope for in a winner take all game in the playoffs.”
Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Bronx Bombers, and Cole has struggled in recent outings. Boone believes Cole is close to getting back into form.
“I don’t think it’s far off at all. I think the stuff is there.”
Boone also addressed Luke Voit not being in the lineup and being transferred to the 60-day IL.
“It was more the reality that he wasn’t going to be in play for us and giving us more flexibility there.”
Staring catcher Gary Sanchez will take a back seat to Kyle Higashioka, and will possibly come off the bench and not be in the DH role.
“It means he’s potentially a bat off the bench,” said Boone of Sanchez. “We’ll talk through it and potentially DH. But no, probably a bat off the bench.”
