Brennan Metzger Takes Out the Trash After Getting Ejected
Minor League player reconsiders career as a trash man after strikeout call.
Baseball is a hard sport to be good, at. Heck, it is hard to be bad at. For minor league baseball players, the grind can be really tough on a guy. For Brennan Metzger, the hard lifestyle finally seemed to get to him. Minor Leaguers are paid worse than any other professional athlete in America; some even have to get part-time jobs (Trash Man perhaps?) during the season to support themselves or their families. To make things worse, these ballplayers don’t exactly have professional umpires to help them make that next step to the big leagues. While mistakes happen, I think Metzger took his anger a tad bit too far.
On the play, the runner at second base steals third as the camera pans over to the play. What the camera missed was the questionable call at home plate. The runner at third base is safe and the game moves on. Or so we thought. About three seconds after the play, Brennan Metzger, the batter, is screaming unpleasant things at the umpire and is tossed from the game. The head coach of the Redhawks comes out to try and calm the situation but losses sight of his young hitter.
For Metzger, this call is his breaking point. He is finally going to tell the umpires of the world what he really thinks. He runs into the dugout, straight to the team trash can. Is he going to throw it on the field in disgust? Hit it with his bat? No, none of those, he takes it and places it right where the umpire stands behind home plate. He is then heard yelling, “go back to your home!” as he points at the trash can. The TV crew working the game cannot contain themselves with laughter and one says this moment is an instant classic. There have been hundreds if not thousands of legendary baseball temper tantrums over the years, but this has got to be the best in recent years.
