Watch as Rangers slugger Joey Gallo discusses rookie Leody Taveras first impressions & game winning double against Astros.

Gallo sent a ringing double to right field in the 9th inning, breaking the scoreless tie against Houston and securing the win for the Rangers.

“For me I just wanted to come through for the team”, Gallo said on his clutch hit. “As a team we really just haven’t gotten anything together, so I knew I had an opportunity with a guy on second. With Gibby (Kyle Gibson) throwing so well, if we get one run we have a really good chance to win this game. I just hear the guys when I’m hitting yelling, and you want to come through for them more than anything. I know I’m going to fail a lot in this game, so for me It’s about coming through for my team”, he finished.

In addition, Gallo gave praise to rookie outfielder Leody Taveras who scored the Rangers winning run against the Astros.

“I’m very impressed with Leody”, he told the media. “We were standing out there taking BP today and Loedy was shagging, and I pointed at him and said ‘That guy is gonna be really good one day’. He’s already good, you can see the raw tools there. He puts the bat on the ball, he runs really well, he’s great defensively, he loves playing the field, and he’s got a really strong arm for a centerfielder. In two, three, or four years this guy’s gonna grow into one of the best centerfielders in baseball. He’s been outstanding leading off for us and his demeanor is so calm.”
