After the loss to Red Sox in the ALDS, CC Sabathia goes off on home plate ump Angel Hernadez.

CC Sabathia is one of the most well-respected pitchers in baseball these days. Sabathia recently turned 38 years old and still measures in over 300 lbs. One of baseballs all-time greats when it comes to being an example of professional athletes out of “shape”. Anyway, Sabathia has been around for many years in the major leagues. Having the experience that he has, it is evident that he has knowledge of the strike zone. The same can is not true for infamous umpire Angel Hernadez. If you are reading or watching this and don’t know who Angel Hernadez is or what he is about, the video below should do some justice.

Once you’ve watched the video below, CC Sabathia’s interview probably makes a lot more sense. Years and years of angst between players and the umpire have spiraled almost out of control. Just last season, after Ian Kinsler got tossed out of a game for looking at Hernadez, Kinsler gave him a piece of his mind. This example is also in the video below. After their “altercation”, Hernandez filed an official complaint with MLB and wanted a lawsuit. To go along with the lawsuit, Angel tried to organize a support group with umpires in the MLB. The group would wear white wristbands to show awareness for umpire mistreatment or something. Nobody really knows.

With all of that being said, it is evident that CC has a point about the umpire in question. While I don’t think he was blaming the umpire for the loss to the Red Sox, it’s not a great look. He did point out the night before where Angel had FOUR calls overturned via replay. That is ridiculous, after miserably failing at his job, the next day is behind home plate in an elimination game at Yankee Stadium. Hopefully, Hernandez is not back till next April.
