Nelson Cruz Reacts to Emotional Trade to Tampa Bay Rays & Minnesota Twins “Like Family”
Watch as Nelson Cruz speaks to media after emotional trade and saying goodbye to Minnesota.
Following three solid seasons with Minnesota, the Tampa Bay Rays has acquired Nelson Cruz in a 4-player deal with the Twins.
Prior to questions, Cruz gave an emotional farewell to Minnesota and gave thanks.
“First of all, I have to thank you guys for all the things you do through the years. Also, I got to thank the fans. I already addressed my teammates and the coaches. Definitely a difficult situation, a tough one. I guess it’s a new chapter, and I will embrace it the way I embrace everything in my life. You know, go and try to help Tampa Bay Rays win a championship.”
“It was shocking”, Cruz said on hearing news of his trade. “I don’t think even if you’re expecting something like this, you never prepare for this.”
Cruz also spoke on the emotional hardship of leaving Minnesota and joining Tampa.
“It was emotional. It’s hard to leave family behind, in this case, move to a different part, go to different organizations. I feel like this was my family, and we’ve been through a lot through the years. So definitely, it’s heartbreaking.”
