Javier Baez on leaving the Cubs and hitting free agency after the 2021 season.

After 11 years with the Chicago Cubs organization, Javier Baez spoke on being traded to play with the New York Mets.

“It’s going to be fun playing with Lindor and seeing this new chapter and how it goes. Like you guys know, I’ve never been in another organization, we’ll see how it goes.”

Baez also expressed his desire to return to Chicago and continue his career as a Cub.

“To be honest, I’d love to,” he told the media. “I don’t know what will happen this off-season with all these moves and the plan this organization has. I’m just grateful for everything they’ve done for me and my family,” says Baez during his time in Chicago.

In addition, Baez spoke on the clubhouse emotions following the Cubs trading the star core of the team.

“There’s been a lot of emotions. Around the clubhouse, with my family, with the coaches that saw me grow here. At the same time, we see the business sides, and it is what it is. The guys, they gotta do what’s best for the organization when they get the chance.”
