Dallas Wings center Liz Cambage breaks WNBA point record with 53 points.
Liz Cambage broke the WNBA single-game record of points with 53 points against the New York Liberty to win 104-87 on Tuesday.
The Australian native shot 17-of-22 from the floor, 4-of-5 from behind the arc and 15-of-16 from the free throw line; Cambage added 10 rebounds and five blocks to her historic stat line. The Dallas center broke the record with a three pointer with 44 seconds left in regulation.
Before Tuesday, 6ft 8in center’s personal record of points in a single game was 37.

“It’s pretty big,” the 26-year-old center said. “I’ve had big numbers in China, I’ve had big numbers in Australia, and I’ve heard a lot of people say I could never have big numbers here in the WNBA. So I guess this game is for y’all.”
The previous record was 51 points by Riquna Williams against the San Antonio Stars in 2013 for the Wings franchise, when they were based out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The last person to put up numbers like her is Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, the man who is universally regarded as the best to ever do it. Cambage outscored the Liberty’s starting five by 10 points.
This win gave Dallas their first home win over New York since 2016.
