Ben Simmons confident in his choice for Rookie of the Year

This year’s Rookie of the Year debate is heating up and everyone is commenting on their pick to win the award. Last Years ROTY winner Ben Simmons is the most recent to put in his two cents and displayed trademark confidence in his pick for the award.

When asked about Rookie of the Year Simmons quickly answered, “Luka. For sure,” as if the award had already been decided.

“The same reason as last year. He’s playing better, his team is winning more games… Trae Young’s killing it same as Donovan, but it’s just overall I think Luka’s got that and he’s just doing a little more,” Simmons said.

Currently, the Atlanta Hawks sit at 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 28-49. Young since the All-Star break has been making a strong case as the 2018-19 Rookie of the Year averaging 25.8 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 9.0 APG.

Despite Young’s end of the year surge into the debate, Doncic has been making his case all season with his impressive rookie numbers. Like the Hawks, the Mavericks are not in playoff contention with a 30-46 record and is second only to the suns for the worst record in the conference.

However, Doncic has been a silver lining for the Mavs disappointing season. Averaging a team-high 21.1 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 5.9 APG, Doncic has become a reliable first option on a team looking for their next star.

With only six games left for Philadelphia and the playoffs around the corner, Simmons spoke on how it was time for the team to really buy in to make that run for a championship.

“I think we’re all getting to that point where we’re locking in. Only a few more games left so it’s important that we all really buy in and get to a spot where we’re comfortable,” Simmons said.

The 76ers are currently third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 49-27 and square off against the Mavericks in Dirk Nowitzki’s possible last game against the 76ers.
