Aaron Gordon drops career high 41 on Brooklyn
Even the most optimistic of Orlando Magic fans couldn’t have predicted their hot start. Without a clear star and several interesting yet uncomplimentary pieces, the early season darlings have surprised the league to end three of their first four games with a W in the win column.
Before the season, many NBA experts deemed this year to be the make or break campaign of undersized fourth year forward Aaron Gordon’s career. His response to their challenge has been nothing short of remarkable.
In just his fourth game of the season, Gordon dropped a career high 41 points to pair with his game high 14 boards. His ferocious feast on the glass as well as his monstrous performance from the field led the Orlando Magic over the Brooklyn Nets 125-121 in a go for broke shootout.
It’s unlikely the Magic can keep up their unlikely Cinderella run, but in the free for all Eastern Conference it’s never safe to bet against a team on a roll. With plenty of season left and a roster just oozing with potential, Orlando could end up stunning the NBA as a dark horse playoff qualifier.
As for the Brooklyn Nets, their prospects of finishing among the Easter Conference’s top eight are looking grimmer with each passing matchup. After losing Jeremy Lin to an injury in their season opener, prized offseason trade acquisition D’Angelo Russell fell victim to a sprained ankle and is now out for the foreseeable future.
